Though I think a number of things the CUE interface does are cute parlor tricks, until Cadillac's supplier of this system can build in a faster processor, this system will be hamstrung. Cadillac has certainly come a long way, and the sale numbers reflect that the market is responding. Chassis control is good - it is possible to generate enough cornering G forces to make passengers have to reach for the grab handles, all without much body roll. It's not quite so quick to slow down however, I'd like a little more brake response instead of the relatively dull feel to the pedal. Regardless, the SRX is a blast to punch hard and wind up to speed - I found it plenty quick. I think it has a “learning” algorithm that gets sportier the harder it is driven. Acura's does that as well.ĮXECUTIVE EDITOR BOB GRITZINGER: Like the looks inside and out, and I love the strong-pulling V6 - unlike Wes, I felt it pulled hard and revved higher and smoother than I expected, and when pushed hard wouldn't upshift until it hit the upper end of the rev range. The SRX AWD system is rather advanced and can split torque side to side on the rear axle, as well as front-to-rear. I remember when this version of the SRX was conceived on a platform co-developed with Saab (remember Saab?) for its 9-4X, and loosely based on the stuff underneath the Chevrolet Equniox. The payoff is, traction is terrific on slick roads. The six-speed auto transmission upshifts quickly as well, adding to the sluggish feeling. Yes, the car can feel a little sluggish sometimes, but then again it's a heavy dude, partly the price for having AWD. The not so hot: I was surprised at the horsepower figure - higher than I thought. But I'm starting to learn my away around it a bit and it functions well. Good room in there, though, and the flat floor helps rear-seat passengers a bunch. Some parts look good and the design gets a thumbs up, but there are some cheap bits as well: For example, the lid on the little tray in front of the gear selector is flimsy. The car rides well over Detroit's potholes, the steering feels good, there's sophistication - a nice feeling of control - to the way it drives, or at least the way it rides. Too Cadillac-like? Some might say so, but I like it. That is to say it drives better than I thought it would in some respects.
